Wear a life jacket

Choose a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket appropriate for the person and the activity. Check its fit, condition, and label. Wear it while underway; a stored life jacket cannot protect you when you unexpectedly enter the water.

If you need help

Call 911 when someone is in danger or needs immediate assistance. Give the dispatcher your location, what happened, and how many people may be involved. Follow the dispatcher’s instructions.

Keep roads, ramps, and emergency access points clear for responders. Do not enter a restricted scene or begin an independent search.
