QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Know where to start.
Answers to common questions about our work, volunteering, support, and contacting us.
Getting help & contacting KVEC
How do I get help in an emergency?
Call 911. Give your location and describe what happened. Do not wait for a response to an email or a website inquiry.
Can I request a response by email?
The general email address is for administrative inquiries. Agencies should use established dispatch and coordination channels for an active incident. See information for agencies.
What work does KVEC do?
We assist with Mississippi River search and rescue, recovery operations, and incident support. See operations.
Is KVEC the local ambulance service?
We provide search-and-rescue assistance. Lee County EMS operates the county’s primary 911 transport ambulance service. In an emergency, call 911 so dispatch can send the appropriate help.
Volunteering
What is the first step in volunteering?
Email us to introduce yourself and ask about current opportunities. Include your interests, experience, availability, and a way to reach you. See volunteering with KVEC.
Are there roles beyond field response?
The published application lists communications, logistics, training, fundraising, events, and administration alongside water search and rescue. Ask which roles are currently needed.
What are the age, training, and time requirements?
Ask us about current eligibility, training, and participation requirements before applying. We will discuss what is expected for the role you are interested in.
Can I show up to help at an active search?
Follow directions from the agency managing the incident. Do not enter a restricted scene or self-deploy. An interest in volunteering does not authorize entry into an active response area.
Support & information
How can I support the Corps?
Contact us to discuss current needs before sending money, buying equipment, or arranging a collection. See supporting KVEC for the next step.
Who should I ask about a receipt or tax treatment?
Ask us for current contribution and receipt information. This website does not establish tax deductibility or provide an online payment service.
Are the news stories official KVEC announcements?
The news archive summarizes outside reporting and links to its publishers. It is not a live incident feed or a substitute for statements from the agency handling a case.
How do I suggest a correction?
Email info@emergencycorps.org with the page and a supporting source. Avoid sending private case materials or personal records.
